*On style: email
vs. e-mail
We writers fancy ourselves as protectors of the language.
Style experts disagree over the proper word for electronic
mail. Should we use "email" or "e-mail"?
I find the slightly preferred "email" is a concise
and somewhat sloppy construction; "e-mail" has
a perhaps clunky hyphen making it a little longer, but to
me emphasizes connecting the "e" in electronic
to traditional "mail." So this Goldscribe votes
for the latter.
While I'm ranting about arcane points of style, it's past
time to lose the capital letters and refer simply to the
non-branded "internet" and "web."
A more radical notion is that we lower-case the personal
pronoun "I" to a humbler, less self-important
"i." Consider the repercussions for humanity to
write "perhaps i was wrong."
